The short version

Chat with Dad is an independent financial-education project by Hendrik Bester. The website does not provide personalised financial advice. A hard-copy order starts with an email request, after which Hendrik sends an invoice confirming the order details, price, payment instructions and estimated delivery time. Payment should be made only against that invoice. If you register for a webinar, Zoom collects your name and email address, the session is recorded, and your participation may appear in that recording. Marketing messages are sent only where separate consent has been given.

1. Who is responsible

The supplier, website operator and responsible party for personal information processed through this website and the Chat with Dad project is Hendrik Bester, a natural person trading as Chat with Dad:

Hendrik Bester
23 Gulley Close
Breakwater Bay
Herolds Bay, Western Cape
South Africa
Website: chat-with-dad.co.za
Email: info@chat-with-dad.co.za
Telephone: +27 82 339 4914

The address above is also the address for service of legal documents. No membership of a self-regulatory or accreditation body, and no separate industry code of conduct, is currently represented through this website.

Hendrik Bester is also the Information Officer for purposes of the Protection of Personal Information Act, 2013 (“POPIA”) and the Promotion of Access to Information Act, 2000 (“PAIA”).

2. Privacy notice

Information that may be processed

  • Webinar registration: your name and email address, together with any registration choices or consent you provide through Zoom.
  • Webinar participation: attendance information and, if you choose to participate, your display name, voice, video, questions or chat messages.
  • Hard-copy orders: your invoice name, contact details, delivery address, order quantity, delivery instructions, invoice details and related correspondence. After invoicing, this may also include the payment amount and date, payment reference and proof of payment.
  • Direct contact: the information contained in emails or other messages you send.
  • Technical information: routine server logs such as IP address, browser type, requested page, date and time, and error or security information.

Why it is processed

Personal information is processed only where there is a lawful basis, including your consent, taking steps at your request, legitimate interests that do not override your rights, or a legal obligation. It may be used to:

  • manage webinar registration, attendance, reminders and follow-up material;
  • host, record and share the webinar as explained below;
  • prepare invoices, verify payment, accept and fulfil hard-copy orders, arrange courier delivery, issue transaction records and handle cancellations, returns or complaints;
  • answer enquiries and provide requested information;
  • operate, secure and improve the website; and
  • send optional marketing communications where separate consent has been given.

Service providers and international processing

Information may be processed by trusted service providers only as needed to provide the relevant service. These currently include Zoom for webinar registration and delivery, 1-grid or its infrastructure providers for website hosting and email, and the courier selected to deliver a hard-copy order. Courier providers receive only the contact and delivery information reasonably needed to fulfil the delivery. The website also uses Google-hosted web fonts, which means your browser may connect to Google when loading a page.

Some providers may process information outside South Africa. Where information is transferred across borders, reasonable steps will be taken to use providers and safeguards consistent with POPIA. Each provider also processes information under its own privacy terms. See the Zoom Privacy Statement and Google Privacy Policy.

Retention and security

Webinar registration and attendance data is normally retained for up to three months after the webinar, unless it must be kept longer for a lawful reason. Information covered by a separate marketing consent may be kept until you unsubscribe or the purpose ends. Order confirmations, proof of payment, delivery records, transaction records and related correspondence may be retained for the period reasonably required for fulfilment, accounting, tax, fraud prevention, dispute resolution and other legal obligations. Other correspondence, security logs and legal records are retained only for as long as reasonably necessary for their purpose or as required by law.

Reasonable technical and organisational safeguards are used to protect information. No internet or storage system can, however, be guaranteed completely secure.

3. Webinar and recording notice

The Chat with Dad webinar is hosted through Zoom and is recorded. Depending on how you participate, the recording may capture your display name, voice, video, questions or chat messages.

If you do not want your contributions recorded, keep your camera and microphone off, use a neutral display name where appropriate, and avoid posting in the chat. By actively participating after receiving this notice, you acknowledge that your contribution may form part of the recording.

The recording may be made available to registered participants and may also be used for reasonable educational, archival or promotional purposes connected with Chat with Dad. Material use outside those purposes will require an appropriate lawful basis.

4. People under 18

People under 18 may attend or submit information only with the consent of a parent or legal guardian who is legally able to consent on their behalf. The parent or guardian should complete or approve the registration and review this notice with the young person.

A person under 18 should not switch on their camera or microphone, post in the chat, or submit additional personal information unless their parent or guardian has agreed. Information about a child will not knowingly be used for direct marketing without the required parent or guardian consent. If information was submitted without appropriate consent, contact info@chat-with-dad.co.za so it can be reviewed and, where appropriate, deleted.

5. Optional email marketing

Registering for a webinar does not automatically subscribe you to marketing. Occasional news, financial-education content or event invitations will be sent only if you separately choose to receive them. Marketing consent is optional and does not affect your webinar registration.

You may withdraw consent at any time by using an unsubscribe link or emailing info@chat-with-dad.co.za. Withdrawal does not affect processing that was lawful before it was withdrawn.

6. Cookies and browser storage

This website does not currently use advertising cookies or behavioural tracking pixels. It may use essential browser storage for functional features, such as remembering access within a private video area during the current browser session. Hosting providers may also create routine technical logs for security and operation.

If analytics, advertising tools or other non-essential tracking are added later, this notice and any required consent mechanism will be updated before those tools are used.

7. Your privacy rights

Subject to applicable law, you may ask whether personal information is held about you and request access, correction or deletion. You may object to certain processing, withdraw consent, ask for processing to be restricted where appropriate, and complain to the Information Regulator.

Send a request to info@chat-with-dad.co.za. Enough information may be requested to confirm your identity and locate the relevant records. Some information may need to be retained or access may need to be limited where the law permits or requires it.

8. Hard-copy orders, delivery and returns

Product, price and territory

The product offered is one new hard-copy edition of Chat with Dad by Hendrik Bester. The price is R300 per copy. Standard courier delivery within South Africa is an additional R135, making the total for one copy R435. Prices are stated in South African rand and include any tax that is required to be included in the advertised consumer price.

For more than one copy, the book price is R300 per copy and the applicable delivery charge and total will be confirmed in writing before the order is accepted. Delivery outside South Africa is not included and will take place only if separately agreed and quoted in writing.

How to order and when a contract is formed

The “Get your Copy” link opens an editable invoice-request email in your own email application. Before sending it, you can review and correct the invoice name, quantity, contact details, delivery address and any other information. The pre-filled email does not contain banking details and no payment or proof of payment is required at this stage. Sending it requests an invoice; it does not automatically create a confirmed order.

After checking availability and the delivery details, Hendrik Bester will reply manually with an invoice confirming the quantity, final price, applicable courier charge, banking details, payment reference and estimated dispatch or delivery time. The invoice constitutes the offer to supply the stated order on those terms. Unless the invoice states otherwise, the customer accepts that offer by making payment before the invoice expires. A receipt or written order confirmation will be sent after cleared payment is received.

Payment is currently accepted by electronic funds transfer. The website does not collect card details or process payment itself. Payment should be made only using the banking details and payment reference shown on the invoice sent from info@chat-with-dad.co.za. Keep copies of the invoice request, invoice, proof of payment and confirmation for your records. If an invoiced and paid order cannot be fulfilled, the amount received will be refunded promptly and within the period required by applicable law.

Dispatch and delivery

Unless a different period is agreed in the written order confirmation, an accepted and fully paid order will be dispatched and delivered within 30 days. The confirmation may provide a shorter estimated dispatch or delivery period. If a delay becomes likely, the customer will be contacted and may exercise any cancellation or refund right available under applicable law.

Delivery is made to the address supplied in the order. Please check it carefully. The book remains at the supplier's risk until it has been delivered and accepted. If incorrect or incomplete address details supplied by the customer cause a failed delivery, reasonable additional redelivery costs may be charged to the extent permitted by law.

Corrections and cancellations

You may correct or withdraw an invoice request before payment by emailing info@chat-with-dad.co.za. If you request cancellation after payment but before dispatch, contact Hendrik immediately. A full refund will be made where the order has not yet been dispatched and no lawful deduction applies.

The seven-day cooling-off right in section 44 of the Electronic Communications and Transactions Act does not apply to the sale of books. This does not remove any right that applies under the Consumer Protection Act, including a cooling-off right where an agreement resulted from direct marketing, or any other non-excludable right.

Incorrect, damaged or defective books

Check the parcel after delivery and report an incorrect, damaged or defective copy as soon as reasonably possible to info@chat-with-dad.co.za, including the order details and, where useful, photographs of the parcel and book. Do not send a return before receiving return instructions.

Where a book is incorrect, damaged, defective, not as described or otherwise fails to meet the standards required by the Consumer Protection Act, the customer's statutory remedies apply. This may include return at the supplier's risk and expense and, at the customer's election where the Act provides, replacement or refund. The Consumer Protection Act's six-month implied warranty of quality is not limited by these terms.

A change-of-mind return after dispatch or delivery is not automatically accepted unless a statutory right applies or the return is agreed in writing. Any agreed voluntary return must be unused, undamaged and suitably packaged; the agreed return conditions and costs will be confirmed in writing. Nothing in this paragraph limits a statutory return, replacement or refund right.

Applicable consumer law

These ordering terms are intended to operate with the Consumer Protection Act 68 of 2008 and the Electronic Communications and Transactions Act 25 of 2002. If these terms conflict with a right that cannot lawfully be excluded, the law prevails.
